This project was to illustrate a single page, double page spread and a front cover for "the cat that walked by himself" by Rudyard Kippling. This will be a children's book. I want to make illustartions as if this was a picture book for children aged 3-7.
I will illustarte pages from this extract: "She tied the thread to the little clay spindle whorl and drew it across the floor, and the Cat ran after it and patted it with his paws and rolled head over heels, and tossed it backward over his shoulder and chased it between his hind-legs and pretended to lose it, and pounced down upon it again, till the Baby laughed as loudly as it had been crying, and scrambled after the Cat and frolicked all over the Cave till it grew tired and settled down to sleep with the Cat in its arms."
RESEARCH
As a cat fanatic, I felt this was my project.

DOUBLE PAGE ILLUSTRATION
I am torn between illustrating either: ‘"Then we can never be friends again,’ said Wild Dog, and he trotted off to the Cave. But when he had gone a little way the Cat said to himself, ‘All places are alike to me. Why should I not go too and see and look and come away at my own liking.’ So he slipped after Wild Dog softly, very softly, and hid himself where he could hear everything." or "She tied the thread to the little clay spindle whorl and drew it across the floor, and the Cat ran after it and patted it with his paws and rolled head over heels, and tossed it backward over his shoulder and chased it between his hind-legs and pretended to lose it, and pounced down upon it again"
I will experiment in the development phase
THUMBNAILS
IDEA DEVELOPEMENT
After feedback, I wanted to go a different angle with my work. I like the neon colours and the the heavy use of texture, bu felt the designs were too boring.
TALK WITH LAUREN CHILD AND JILL CAULDER
I found this talk really helpful, I got to look at a lot of really itresting work and here about the design process from masters of the field (and got a picture with my hero!).
LAUREN CHILD
JILL CAULDER
I'm going to use both these artists as inspiration for this project.

I will be illustrating this passage: "the Cat ran after it and patted it with his paws and rolled head over heels, and tossed it backward over his shoulder and chased it between his hind-legs and pretended to lose it, and pounced down upon it again"

SINGLE PAGE ILLUSTRATION
For this illustartion I want to illustrate the extract: "till the Baby laughed as loudly as it had been crying, and scrambled after the Cat and frolicked all over the Cave till it grew tired and settled down to sleep with the Cat in its arms."
